Gangnam Styling All Across the USA-

PSY’s growing popularity, all across the world, not just in the USA, has been a well discussed topic among kpop fans ever since the release of his single Gangnam Style. And, to be fair, plenty of other Korean artists have recieved wide recognition from international fans before, but never quite as large of a scale as PSY.
In my area, in the midwest of the United States, the number of kpop fans is quite small, and very few people in the area know anything about kpop. Even here, where the number of Koreans is small and the number of kpop fans even less, when I mention  ’South Korea’ I get a response along the lines of “Oh, Korea? Like PSY and that one song Gangnam Style?”. And while the pronunciation of PSY may make me cringe, most people here not only know a fair amount about him, but also love Gangnam Style and can do the dance! And, on Sunday, when I turned on the radio, what should I hear but PSY’s voice coming from the speakers saying “Heeeeeeeeey sexy laaadyyyyyy”. And the local radio DJ described PSY as something along the lines of a delicious combination of chocolate and peanut butter. I don’t know about you, but I think that means PSY has a pretty amazing song.
So congratulations to PSY! Not only does he totally own the number one spots on both youtube and itunes, but he has also done what no kpop artist has ever done before; get his song on the radio in the heart of the midwest of the USA.

U.S. Forbes praises Psy: “He is a genuine star”

The famed U.S. economics magazine Forbes recently analyzed the factors that led Psy to become a world star.
On September 22 (local time), Forbes.com focused on Psy and his song “Gangnam Style” under the title, “How Gangnam Style has Britney Spears (and everyone else) dancing with Psy from Korea.”
The article first said that the music video for the song received over 240 million hits on YouTube and Psy has signed with Scooter Braun’s Schoolboy Records division of Universal Republic Records.
The article says, “First, Psy is a genuine star. He’s funny and personable, but also rhythmically acute. Second, the Gangnam Style dance is easy to do badly, but requires a little skill to do well. Like the Macarena.”
“Third, the song and dance has intergenerational appeal, as this mother son video (also trumpeted by Ellen DeGeneres) shows.”
“Finally, far from being a liability, the fact that the song is sung almost completely in Korean makes it open to interpretation (and mis-interpretation) in viral ways.”
“A search for ‘Psy parody’ on YouTube already lists 3,670 results. He has even caught the attention of the new regime in Pyongyang, North Korea.”
“Psy is #11 on the Hot 100, #28 on Pop Songs, #68 on Radio Songs, #4 on Digital Songs, and #43 on On-Demand Songs.”
Psy will return to Korea after completing his 20-day schedule in the United States and hold a press conference on September 25.

All tickets for Big Bang’s concerts in the U.S. are sold out

All tickets for Big Bang’s concert in the U.S. have been sold out.
On September 22 (local time), all 24,000 tickets for Big Bang’s concerts in California and New Jersey were sold out in only two hours.
Big Bang will hold concerts on November 3 at the Honda Center in California and on November 9 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. Both are very famous concert halls where many world-renowned singers hold their concerts. Each concert hall can accommodate 12,000 people.
Many Korean artists have held concerts in the U.S., but Big Bang are the first Korean singing group to hold a concert at a hall that can accommodate more than 10,000 people. Big Bang have never promoted themselves in the U.S., so it’s even more surprising that all tickets for the concerts have been sold out.
All 30,000 tickets for their concert in Hong Kong, which will be held on December 8 and 9 at the Asia Expo, have also been quickly sold out.
YG Entertainment, Big Bang’s agency, says, “We’re thinking of holding more concerts in the U.S. and Hong Kong because many people there are enthusiastically responding to Big Bang’s concerts.”
In addition to the U.S. and Hong Kong, Big Bang have also sold all tickets for their concerts in Korea, Japan (five cities), China (three cities), Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
Big Bang are visiting most of the countries for the first time, and they’re trying to attract a total audience of 10,000 and more in most of the countries.
Going on the world tour in collaboration of the world-famous agency Live Nation, Big Bang recently received many favorable reviews for their first concert in Seoul. They have also successfully held tours of Japan and China.
Big Bang will continue their world tour until December, and their next concert will be held on September 28 in Singapore.
